Vacancy Announcement for Director of University Health Services and Vice-Deans

The University for Development Studies, Tamale, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following positions:

  1. Director of University Health Services
  2. Vice-Deans:
    • Faculty of Education
    • Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources and Environment
    • School of Nursing and Midwifery

 
(1) THE POSITION OF DIRECTOR OF UNIVERSITY HEALTH SERVICES
The Director is the executive head of the Directorate of University Health Services and shall report to the Vice Chancellor in the discharge of his/her duties.

A. QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Applicants must have:

  1. An MBChB or Dentistry (BDS) qualification from a recognised institution.
  2. Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant post qualification experience in the practice of Medicine/Dentistry OR show evidence of post qualification experience in a Senior Management position for at least two (2) years within the Ghana Health Service or in the Directorate of Health Services in a University or analogous institution.
  3. Proven capacity in resource mobilisation and financial management.
  4. Experience in collaboration and stakeholder engagement, including working with regulatory bodies, professional associations, government agencies, and international partners.

B. THE APPLICANTS

In addition, the ideal candidate must:

  1. Be able to work for a minimum of four (4) years before attaining the statutory retirement age of sixty (60) years
  2. Be a Member or Fellow of a recognised professional association/body

C. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Exercise oversight responsibility over the operations of all hospitals, clinics and other health units of the University.
  2. Exercise supervision over the staff under him/her to ensure the delivery of high-quality healthcare services in all hospitals, clinics and other health units of the University.
  3. Ensure requisite staff are employed, transferred, assigned, or relocated to support his or her work in the Directorate in collaboration with the Registrar.
  4. Facilitate staff development, mentorship, and effective performance management to enhance capacity, productivity, and professional growth.
  5. Foster collaboration with the Ghana Health Services and other relevant regulatory bodies and stakeholders.
  6. Ensure strict compliance with the University’s Statutes, policies, and regulations.

D. TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

The appointment shall be for an initial term of four (4) years and may be renewed for one additional consecutive term only.


(2) THE POSITION OF VICE-DEAN

The Vice-Dean is the Deputy Academic and Administrative Head of the Faculty, and shall report to the Dean in the discharge of his/her duties. The successful candidate will support the Dean to provide visionary leadership to advance academic quality, research productivity, and community impact in alignment with the University’s strategic priorities. 

A. QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Applicants must have:

  1. A PhD in a relevant field obtained from a recognised University or analogous Institution.
  2. Substantial post-qualification experience spanning teaching, research, and professional practice within a recognised University or analogous Institution.
  3. Demonstrated leadership experience in a Senior Academic and Administrative role in the relevant field/background.
  4. Proven expertise in resource mobilisation, financial management, grant acquisition, and partnership development.
  5. Strong evidence of stakeholder engagement with regulatory bodies, professional associations, government agencies, and international partners

B. THE APPLICANTS 

In addition, the ideal applicants must:

  1. Be of  Professorial status at a recognised University or analogous Institution.
  2. Be eligible to serve a full term of three (3) years before attaining the statutory retirement age of sixty (60) years.

C. TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

The appointment shall be for an initial term of three (3) years and may be renewed for one additional consecutive term only.

A person shall not be re-appointed for a third term of office unless at least three (3) years have elapsed since he/she last held the same position.
